Supporting and Empowering the Local Community

Southwark Muslim Women’s association has been an important stepping-stone for hundreds of women over the years. Whether in terms of helping women navigate a new country or providing women with an entry into education for the first time SMWA is constantly working for the community. For many women SMWA provides them with the opportunity to work towards building a career.

SMWA has changed and grown over the years responding to the needs of our members. At first we were very focused on community, social and support. Over recent years our emphasis has been to offer women the chance to learn vital skills, ranging from Literacy to ICT and personal development.

Initially we started working with women but over the years we have developed and broadened our services to provide classes and activities with young people. We have excellent links with local schools and have been successfully running arts workshops, fashion courses and childcare courses over recent years.
